Human Trafficking Survivor Uses Her Experience to Advocate for Others

Shanna Parker is more than just a survivor of human trafficking. She is an advocate, leader and powerful force fighting against a despicable crime that often goes unnoticed and unreported. Human trafficking involves the use of force, fraud or coercion to obtain some type of labor or commercial sex act.

Growing up, Irene had it all—a loving family and a healthy home. But that all changed when she was introduced to addictive substances. At just 19 years old, she left home and ran after all the wrong things.

In 2013, after years of abuse and loss that led her to unhealthy decisions, Leah was facing another eviction. She worked as a waitress and danced at a nightclub to make ends meet. One night, a pimp approached her and offered an opportunity she believed could help her provide for her family.

When children experience trauma at a young age, it radically alters the course of their lives, especially when that trauma isn’t recognized and treated. It takes extraordinary circumstances, including steadfast bravery, to deal with the long-term effects of that trauma and find healing.

At 30 years old, Kerry started down a new path that would take over her life. She would experience some of the most dangerous and scary moments of her life.
