A Teens’ Closet Angel

Fitting in during the teen years can be challenging, especially for teens struggling with the added stress of living in poverty. Teens’ Closet volunteer Nan DeChant understands this more than most and is committed to helping teens ease those stressors.

“This experience has been more personally fulfilling than anything I could have done in business,” said Catholic Charities Volunteer Kevin O’Donnell. O’Donnell retired from his full-time career as a commodities trader in August 2017 and loves to come to “work” at Catholic Charities offices in downtown Phoenix each week.

Back to School Bash

Each housing community held its own event hosted by Catholic Charities team members. Residents were excited to get involved and enjoy a time filled with games, food and music.

It is impossible to deny the heat of a Phoenix summer, and with temperatures soaring particularly high this year, Phoenicians are especially eager to find a way to cool off. But on a recent morning, the residents at our affordable housing communities didn’t have to look far, as a team of volunteers from the University of Mary Summer Institute brought the cool to them.

The Luke Air Force base crew bought shelves and went to work in organizing, charting and sorting clothing, small appliances, kitchen ware, blankets, pillows and other donations given to help veterans start a life after leaving MANA House. The crew also served meals throughout the day to veterans.

Purse Drive Helps Local Moms

At Catholic Charities, we recognize that being a mom is hard work. Its a job that deserves to be celebrated. As we brainstormed ways to celebrate the moms in our programs, we were introduced to the amazing work that Shoebox Ministry is doing.
