BULLHEAD CITY, Ariz. (June 6, 2022): As the Arizona summer temperatures increase, so do heat related illnesses and deaths, especially among those experiencing homelessness. Effective June 6, Catholic Charities Community Services is adding a cooling station on the back patio of The Legacy Foundation Christine Stamper Center for Help & Hope. The center is a first-of-its-kind, day drop-in center and overnight shelter, and will now be open 24/7 providing relief and resources to the community’s most vulnerable. We are looking for volunteers and community partners to fill several critical needs and life-saving opportunities.

The center provides safe, temporary shelter for up to 200 unduplicated individuals and families experiencing homelessness annually. It provides resources, referrals and supportive services to 1,400 members of the community each year. The goal is to work toward permanent housing for those experiencing homelessness.

The shelter is offering a daily cooling station, overnight rest, relief, basic necessities, case management and some health services for individuals and families experiencing homelessness in the tri-state area. Sheltering up to 57 individuals each night, private rooms are available for families and veterans. Catholic Charities has been operating in Bullhead City in many capacities since 2015. In response to the pandemic, per requirements, we modified
services and limited congregate living, however we are increasing our hours open and need volunteers and partners help.

We are offering volunteer training sessions open to everyone — people of all faiths, including civic groups and people of good will. The sessions are scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon and again at 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, June 23, 2022, at St. Margaret Mary’s Catholic Church, 1691 Oatman Rd. in Bullhead City.
