Pregnancy should be a time of joy and excitement for the future. However, not every woman who becomes pregnant is ready or able to parent. Catholic Charities’ Joining Hearts program understands this and compassionately walks alongside women experiencing an unexpected pregnancy.

When 28-year-old Tamara arrived at the emergency room with severe stomach pain, what she learned next would change her life forever. She was surprised to find out that she was pregnant, and the baby was full-term.

Any parent will say that having a child is the most challenging, yet rewarding, experience in life. However, not every person who becomes pregnant is ready to parent or has the resources to provide the life for their child they hoped and dreamed of.

Life was difficult for Beth. At 22 years old, she discovered she was pregnant. Beth had a strained relationship with her ex-boyfriend, the father of her unborn child, and she was estranged from her family. Unemployed and without reliable transportation, Beth didn’t feel parenting was a viable option and began considering adoption.
