North Star Youth Partnership

North Star Youth Partnership engages youth ages 11-18 through educational, recreational, leadership and service-learning opportunities.
What started in 1997 as an educational program to prevent adolescent pregnancy in Yavapai County
has expanded to 11 different programs serving youth in Central and Northern Arizona.

A teenager recently visited Teens' Closet for the first time. Like many young people who come through the program, he picked out clothing and received a hygiene kit filled with everyday essentials. It was a simple appointment, much like hundreds of others that have taken place over the years. But afterward, something unexpected happened.

The teen became emotional. As he talked about his experience, he shared that he had never been given anything without feeling like he had to earn it first.

For Alanna King, Teens' Closet Coordinator, one detail of the story stood out. It wasn't the clothing that had the biggest impact. It was a stick of deodorant.

For most people, deodorant is an item they pick up without a second thought. For this teen, receiving something so basic and personal communicated something much deeper: that he mattered.

More Than a Clothing Closet

Teens' Closet, a program of Catholic Charities’ North Star Youth Partnership, provides free clothing and hygiene kits to teens experiencing financial hardship. What began in Prescott has grown into a trusted resource for youth and families and has expanded into Maricopa County, helping even more teens access the support they need.

Teens ages 13 to 19 can shop by appointment every other month for stylish, age-appropriate clothing that helps them feel comfortable and confident. Teens under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

The program also provides referrals to community resources and support that helps teens pursue educational and employment opportunities. Whether a young person needs clothing for school, a job interview, or simply everyday life, Teens' Closet helps remove barriers that can stand in the way of success.

This year, 100% of teen clients reported that coming to Teens' Closet improved their life situation.

A Resource Families Appreciate

The impact of Teens' Closet extends beyond the teens themselves. One local mom shared that the program has been a blessing for her children, niece, and nephew. Access to clean, well-fitting clothes they genuinely enjoy wearing has helped build confidence while providing a fun and private shopping experience. She said Teens' Closet was especially helpful during prom season, helping several teens find clothing for an important milestone and creating memories they will never forget.

How You Can Help

The success of Teens' Closet depends on the generosity of donors, volunteers, and community partners who believe every teen deserves dignity, confidence, and opportunity. Donations of teen clothing, full-size hygiene products, gift cards, birthday bag supplies, and financial contributions help keep the program running and ensure that teens receive the support they need.

One of the easiest ways to help is by shopping the Teens' Closet Amazon Wish List. Items purchased from the list are shipped directly to the program and used to stock hygiene kits and other essential supplies.

A new outfit can help a teen feel confident. A hygiene kit can meet an immediate need. Sometimes, something as simple as a stick of deodorant can remind a young person that they are seen, valued, and worthy of care.
