North Star Youth Partnership

North Star Youth Partnership engages youth ages 11-18 through educational, recreational, leadership and service-learning opportunities.
What started in 1997 as an educational program to prevent adolescent pregnancy in Yavapai County
has expanded to 11 different programs serving youth in Central and Northern Arizona.

Back in 2002, a high school student named Haley Kilpatrick sought a way to help younger girls navigate middle school by sharing her own experiences. This desire led her to create Girl Talk—a program that promotes meaningful dialogue between middle and high school girls. Girl Talk has since grown to include hundreds of chapters throughout the U.S.

Girl Talk Builds Confidence Through Leadership and Community Service

Girl Talk is a peer-to-peer mentor program that supports middle school girls with guidance from high school mentors while emphasizing leadership, confidence and giving back to the community. Each week, the girls discuss topics from friendship and gratitude to self-advocacy and body image.

North Star Youth Partnership (NSYP) implemented Girl Talk in 2009. North Star Youth Partnership, a program of Catholic Charities, engages youth ages 11-18 through educational, recreational, leadership and service-learning opportunities. NSYP offers Girl Talk at three middle schools in the Prescott area, with over 50 middle school girls and nine high school leaders participating.

Partnering with Wrapped in Love Diaper Bank

Girl Talk recently partnered with Wrapped in Love Diaper Bank on a community service project, bringing youth mentorship and hands-on service together. Through this partnership, Girl Talk participants were able to step beyond their weekly discussions and actively serve their community, reinforcing the importance of compassion, teamwork and social responsibility.

Wrapped in Love Diaper Bank is a local nonprofit dedicated to providing essential supplies like diapers, wipes and more to families in need throughout Yavapai County. Founded in 2023, this community-driven initiative works to alleviate the financial burden of essential personal care supplies.

Working Hands-On to Provide Parenting Essentials

As part of the project, Wrapped in Love visited Heritage Middle School, Pronghorn Ridge Middle School and Acorn Montessori, where the girls worked together to make empowering cards as well as wrap diapers and wet wipes into individual bundles of 10 to be distributed to local families.

In total, over 2,200 diapers were assembled, directly supporting local families. This joint effort highlighted the powerful impact of community partnerships and youth involvement. It’s a shining example of how organizations like Girl Talk and Wrapped in Love can unite schools, students and nonprofits to create lasting positive change—one bundle at a time!
