North Star Youth Partnership

North Star Youth Partnership engages youth ages 11-18 through educational, recreational, leadership and service-learning opportunities.
What started in 1997 as an educational program to prevent adolescent pregnancy in Yavapai County
has expanded to 11 different programs serving youth in Central and Northern Arizona.

Success looks different for everyone—and for Allie, it meant finding her voice in an unexpected way. As both a high school senior and a Yavapai College student, she has taken a unique path that has led her to connection, community and a sense of leadership.

Choosing a Path of Accelerated Education

Allie chose to earn her Arizona General Education Curriculum (AGEC) certificate, which completes the core general education requirements for Arizona universities, and participate in an Early College Program.

She stepped away from the traditional high school setting and immersed herself in a college environment. While this gave her independence and academic opportunity, it also meant missing out on some of the connection and involvement of a typical high school experience.

Girl Talk Provides a Piece of the High School Experience

Allie joined Girl Talk during her sophomore year, after being invited to help with meetings. What started as a simple opportunity quickly became a transformative experience.

Girl Talk is part of North Star Youth Partnership (NSYP), a Catholic Charities program that engages youth in educational, recreational, leadership and service-learning opportunities. Girl Talk connects middle school girls with high school mentors to build confidence, develop life skills and navigate challenges like body image and self-esteem.

A Push Toward Leadership and Personal Growth

Before Girl Talk, Allie describes herself as quiet and hesitant, especially about public speaking. Stepping into a leadership role pushed her outside of her comfort zone in ways she never expected.

Over the past three years, Allie has grown into a confident leader who is not only comfortable speaking in front of others, but often the first to do so. Through planning meetings, collaborating with other leaders and mentoring younger girls, she developed strong organizational and communication skills.

Pursuing a Deep Passion for Mentorship

Her impact didn’t stop there. As a Girl Talk Ambassador, Allie connected with leaders across the country, gaining new perspectives and strengthening her passion for mentorship and community.

Despite her busy schedule, Allie remained committed to Girl Talk. The most rewarding part has been witnessing growth—not only in herself and her fellow leaders, but in the girls they support. Watching the younger girls gain confidence, open up and navigate their own challenges is a powerful reminder of why programs like Girl Talk matter.

Shaping Futures, One Voice at a Time

Today, Allie is a testament to what can happen when young women have the opportunity to lead, connect and grow. As she prepares to graduate and continue both her education and career, she carries with her the lessons and leadership skills she developed through Girl Talk.

Allie’s story is not just one of personal growth, but of the ripple effect that mentorship and community can create. Girl Talk is more than just a club—it’s a space where leadership grows, voices are discovered and futures take shape.
