North Star Youth Partnership’s 18th Annual Girls & Sports Day is Sept. 28 at James Family Prescott YMCA

PRESCOTT, Ariz. (Sept. 13, 2019): Registration is open for the 18th Annual Girls & Sports Day featuring a range of sports activities and a special appearance by author, athlete and musician Kasey Shaver, from 1-7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28 at the James Family Prescott YMCA, 750 Whipple Street. Girls can register in person at the YMCA.

The Girls & Sports Day is organized and sponsored by North Star Youth Partnership, a program of Catholic Charities Community Services, and James Family Prescott YMCA. Additional funding is provided by the Yavapai Regional Medical Center.

Events include gymnastics, an obstacle course and gaga ball for girls aged 7-9; zumba, kickball and dance for girls aged 10-11; and broom ball, volleyball and self-defense for girls aged 12-14.

The $15 pre-registration cost for the day includes all activities, a goodie-filled backpack and dinner by Papa John’s Pizza and Panera Bread. Registration forms can be printed at www.northstaryouth.org and turned in at the YMCA. More information and volunteer opportunities can be found at www.prescottymca.org.

Check-in and late registration on a space-available basis, is from 1-1:30 on the day of the event. Each participant must bring a parent-signed permission slip and liability waiver. Girls with special medical needs must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Space is limited to 250 girls.

Girls should wear comfortable clothes, but not dresses, and athletic shoes and bring a water bottle and sunscreen. Flip-flops and sandals are not appropriate.

Shaver has been working as a Youth Development Coordinator at North Star Youth Partnership since November 2007. An avid athlete and college cheerleader, she released her first book, Dandy the Lion: Helping Others, in November 2016. She also is a member of the band Smoke & Mirrors, which performs statewide and will release its first album, Start with This Dance, this fall.
