Priceless Prom Project Helps Local Families

Every year as spring rolls around, high school students start dreaming of one of the biggest nights of the year--Prom. Parents, on the other hand, are often concerned about the cost associated with the big night. North Star Youth Partnership’s Priceless Prom Project provides students with free prom attire.

The Republican Women of Prescott, the largest federated Republican women’s club in the country, worked hard to support North Star Youth Partnership’s Priceless Prom Project.  As part of their Caring for America focus, members have been busy collecting hundreds of items ranging from dresses, shoes, purses, tuxedos and suits.  They also collected monetary donations.

Special thanks to Barbara Fox-Thomas and Mary Connor for spearheading the partnership with North Star.

“Each year, there are so many feel good moments at Priceless Prom. The participants are always so appreciative and thankful for what they receive. This event not only helps teens feel good about themselves, and offsets the financial burden of prom, but it also has become somewhat of a pay-it-forward program. Girls come back the following year to return their dress, so someone else can enjoy it, even though the girls could  keep the dresses and jewelry,” said Crystal Koons, North Star health educator and Priceless Prom Project coordinator.

Parents often accompany their teens to find the perfect prom attire. Without the Priceless Prom Project, many families would not be able to afford prom. One mom shared that they couldn’t afford to buy a dress, but at the Priceless Prom Project, her daughter found a dress that she loved that helped her to feel beautiful and special.

The Priceless Prom Project is held in Prescott, Ariz., each March and April.  Teens are able to come to the event and select the items they need for prom free of charge.
