Here at Catholic Charities, we see a strong parallel between the Fourth of July holiday and the work we do. As we celebrate the independence of our nation, we also celebrate the independence of our clients. But none of that would be possible without our team members, board leaders, volunteers, donors, and those who fought for our freedoms in the first place. Thank you for being an important part of our mission!
Â
In this issue of Catholic Charities Connect, you’ll hear about special recognition of one of our partners in honor of their contributions to MANA (Marines, Army, Navy, Air Force) House. You’ll also be immersed in stories of hope and resilience from veterans in our programs. Lastly, you can see the highlights from a special event at the BHHS Legacy Foundation Christine Stamper Center for Help & Hope. Enjoy!

We recently hosted several members from the Halle Foundation on a special tour of our MANA House. We are pleased to name the MANA House Chapel in honor of Mrs. Halle and The Diane & Bruce Halle Foundation.  Â

When Phillip and Jennifer got in contact with Catholic Charities Veterans Services, they were in desperate need of help. A poor living situation had left them experiencing homelessness, and things only got more urgent when Jennifer began experiencing health issues and ended up in the hospital. Â
Â
A case manager took quick action to get them both enrolled in the program and helped them navigate barriers that were preventing them from finding housing. With the help of a kind landlord, Phillip and Jennifer were able to get housed and received household essentials for their new place.Â
Â
Learn more about their story and how they’ve achieved stability through the Veterans Services program.

MANA House Helps Veteran See a Bright FutureÂ

All it took for veteran Joseph Trevino to believe in himself was for someone else to believe in him. When Joseph came to MANA House, he was experiencing homelessness and dealing with some unfounded legal charges and health issues.
Â
In working with MANA House, Joseph was able to achieve so much more than just permanent housing. He was able to get his record expunged, receive health benefits to restore his vision and reunite with his daughters. Read more about Joseph and how he kept his faith through adversity.

Last month, over 60 donors, volunteers, community partners and staff gathered at St. Margaret Mary's Catholic Church in Bullhead City before touring the BHHS Legacy Foundation Christine Stamper Center for Help & Hope. The Center, operated by Catholic Charities, is the only emergency shelter for families or individuals in the tri-state area.Â
Â
During the breakfast program, Board Chair, Mary Permoda, and incoming Board Chair, Olivia McCormick, spoke about the critical role the shelter plays in addressing homelessness and the need for continued support. Teri Tomlinson, Vice President of Program Development for BHHS Legacy Foundation, also spoke about the Foundation’s longtime advocacy and financial support of the shelter.Â
Â
Leaders from Mohave Electric Cooperative were in attendance and continue to provide instrumental funding to the Center for Help & Hope. Following the program, attendees were invited to tour the shelter, which serves up to three families, 40 individuals, and eight veterans. Guests were able to see where three daily meals are served as well as a computer lab, laundry services and showers that are provided to anyone in need.
