Catholic Charities Connect - December 2023 Edition

December 2023

Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger. Luke 2:11-12

Emergency Santa Brings
Holiday Cheer to Arizona Children

Christmas has begun at Catholic Charities! Our Emergency Santa program is in full swing and our Care Campus in Mesa has been fully decked out for the holidays. This year 800 children and 230 families will receive brand new toys or games, books, clothes, and toiletries through Emergency Santa. Parents of the recipients volunteered in the community for the opportunity to be a part of the program.

It’s not too late to donate gifts for Emergency Santa! Visit our Amazon Wish List here and we will make sure your gifts bring a smile to a child’s face this Christmas.

AFP Recognizes Leaders in Philanthropy

Emeritus board members and longtime supporters, Marcus and Darla Sipolt, were honored by Catholic Charities at this year’s National Philanthropy Day Luncheon hosted by the Arizona Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) on November 17th.

Catholic Charities’ longtime partner, Forest Highlands Foundation, was also honored with a Sprit of Philanthropy award. Thank you to the Sipolts and Forest Highlands for your contributions to Catholic Charities and the lasting impact you have made on the lives of our community’s most vulnerable!

Hundreds of Families Receive Thanksgiving Baskets

Catholic Charities was honored to partner with the BHHS Legacy Foundation and Food for Families last month to distribute nearly 600 Thanksgiving baskets to families in need in Bullhead City! Baskets included a turkey and fresh pumpkin pie, along with all the holiday fixings, for each of the families served by the program.

Catholic Charities is Honored
for Embodying the Golden Rule

Catholic Charities President and CEO, Paul Mulligan, accepted the Darl Andersen Honoree award on behalf of the agency at the November 9th Golden Rule Banquet award ceremony. Bishop Dolan, Msgr. Peter D. Bui, Fr. Greg Schlarb, Fr. John Muir and Brett Meister attended as guests of Catholic Charities alongside Catholic Charities board members and staff.

According to the organizers of the event, Arizona Interfaith Movement, Catholic Charities was honored with the award for “Being guided by the Golden Rule for many years in providing life-changing services to Arizonans that protect and nurture children, help strengthen families, and assist individuals in a variety of services through early education and youth leadership programs.”

Thank you, Arizona Interfaith Movement, for this wonderful recognition!

Light the World Giving Machines Heads North

The Light the World Giving Machines kicked off the holiday season at the Westgate Entertainment District. The Giving Machines provide a family-friendly, fun and easy way to help our community’s most vulnerable. The large, red “vending machines” work in reverse, creating a memorable way to give to those in need during the Christmas season with a simple swipe of a credit card amid holiday festivities. Catholic Charities is one of five beneficiaries of the Giving Machines this year.

Over 50 guests attended the November 20th launch event, including Catholic Charities President and CEO, Paul Mulligan and VP of Philanthropy, Karen Bisko; a big thank you to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Arizona Communication Director, Candice Copple and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Arizona Directors of Light the World Giving Machines, Fran and Steve Lowder, pictured above left to right.
