Happy Thanksgiving!

Drawing by Mila, age 5

You formed my inmost being; you knit me in my mother’s womb. I praise you, because I am wonderfully made; wonderful are your works! Psalm 139:13-14

As we approach the holiday season, we want to wish you and your family a joyous Thanksgiving! When we think about gratitude here at Catholic Charities, we’re reminded of how grateful we are for each of you- our donors, volunteers, community partners and staff. Your compassion and generosity enable us to serve our most vulnerable neighbors day after day.

In this issue of Catholic Charities Connect, you’ll enjoy photos from a recent celebration, learn about a volunteer endeavor at our veteran’s shelter, and read about a special evening in Bullhead City. In honor of National Adoption Month, you’ll also witness a real-life story about a family impacted through our foster care and adoption program. Finally, you’ll have a chance to give back to those who need us most.

Last month, over 100 board members, donors, supporters and staff gathered at Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Church in Scottsdale for a special Mass to honor Catholic Charities' 91st anniversary. During his homily, Bishop John Dolan reflected on the importance of hope and the vital work Catholic Charities has accomplished over the years.

“Bishop Dolan’s sincere remarks demonstrate his deep love and respect for our agency and the impactful work we do,” said Paul Mulligan, Catholic Charities President & CEO. “His support is instrumental to the over 23,000 lives we touched last year alone.”

Following the Mass, attendees took part in our inaugural Hope Society donor reception, where they heard the heartfelt story of a family who adopted their daughter through Catholic Charities. Read more here!

St. Patrick’s Men’s Club Treats

Veterans at MANA House

We extend our sincere gratitude to both The St. Patrick’s Men’s Club for their generous $5,000 donation and to former board chair Mary Permoda for her assistance in organizing a recent ice cream social and raffle at Catholic Charities MANA (Marines, Army, Navy, Air Force) House. The event was a tremendous success, thanks to the dedication of nearly a dozen Men’s Club members who volunteered their time to treat our veterans residing at the transitional living facility in Phoenix.

The Club’s support doesn’t stop there: they have chosen to donate sheets and pillows each month as part of our Welcome Home Kits. They will also donate several Thanksgiving turkeys this month to ensure MANA residents are well fed this holiday season. Thank you, St. Patrick’s Men’s Club; your generosity and commitment to our heroes are truly appreciated!

Staff Show their Support in Bullhead City

The White Night in the Park event took place last month at the Gary Keith Civic Center Park in Bullhead City. Catholic Charities was proud to participate with Paul Mulligan, President & CEO; Cathy Peterson, Northern Arizona Executive Director; and several local staff from Catholic Charities’ BHHS Legacy Foundation Center for Help and Hope in attendance to show their support of the community. Olivia McCormick, Catholic Charities Board Chair, who plays a key role in the park's development, was honored to have Catholic Charities’ presence at this significant event.
