Take Me Out to the Ballgame!

Summer is coming to an end and what better way to celebrate than a day at the ballpark? As part of Catholic Charities Awareness Month and our 90th anniversary, our team members and clients were invited to celebrate with the Diamondbacks. We are grateful for the remarkable support the organization has provided for many years, from $350,000 in monetary donations and thousands of complimentary game tickets, to in kind donations, volunteer service and player visits with our clients.

Paul Mulligan, Catholic Charities President and CEO, threw the first pitch at the September 20th game and several staff members were recognized for their many years of service, totaling 90 years when added together!

City of Mesa Helps Provide
Safe Space for Survivors to Heal

We are pleased to announce a new partnership with the City of Mesa. Their recent $20,000 grant enabled our My Sisters’ Place and Pathways programs to create a healing, safe space for survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence to receive counseling and case-management services.

Thank you to our compassionate My Sisters’ Place team members, pictured above wearing purple in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month and Wear Purple Day on October 19th to support victims of domestic violence, and the City of Mesa for working together to serve our most vulnerable neighbors. We look forward to doing even more together!

Catholic Charities Earns Award
for Excellence in Volunteerism

Congratulations to our Volunteer Services Team! Last month, the team was awarded the Service Enterprise Initiative Certification by ASU Lodestar Center, Association of Leaders in Volunteer Engagement (AL!VE) and Points of Light. The Service Enterprise Initiative is a national program that provides training and certification to nonprofits that are committed to implementing exemplary volunteer management practices to achieve operational efficiency and greater social impact.

In 2022, Catholic Charities engaged 3,273 volunteers for 47,592 hours of labor valued at $1.4 million.

“Becoming recertified as a Service Enterprise Agency has affirmed that our agency is committed to integrating volunteers in meaningful and strategic ways and has continued to implement the structure put in place since the original certification in 2016,” said Catholic Charities Volunteer Services Manager Shannon Hill, pictured above center. New Board Members Bring
Commitment and Experience

We are excited to welcome two new board members to the Catholic Charities board of directors! Quinn Williams, J.D., Shareholder at Greenberg Traurig, and Dr. Veronica Chacón, Director of Early Childhood Workforce Registry at ASU, have been elected as new board members.

As a seasoned attorney, Mr. Williams brings a breadth of experience advising boards on capital formation, governance, and compliance issues. Dr. Chacón, an expert in early childhood and mental health, has over 20 years of experience working with children and families in urban, rural and tribal communities.

“We are delighted to have Mr. Williams and Dr. Chacón join our team. With their level of experience and dedication to our mission, each will certainly be a great asset to our agency,” said Catholic Charities President and CEO, Paul Mulligan.

Help Provide Holiday Cheer to Children in Need

It’s the most wonderful time of the year… or at least time to get ready for it: Christmas! We are looking for generous sponsors and gifts to provide holiday cheer to hundreds of children during Catholic Charities’ Emergency Santa program. Children will receive brand new toys, books, clothing, hygiene items and more. Parents of children have the unique opportunity to volunteer in the community in exchange for holiday gifts for their children.

This program is offered to families who qualify and those participating in our foster care, Westside Head Start, shelter and housing programs. Contact Wendy Owens at WOwens@cc-az.org if you are interested in sponsorship opportunities. You can also shop our Amazon Wish List here.

If you know a family in need of Emergency Santa services, contact 602-650-4860.
