Happy Fourth of July! We wish you a blessed and joyous holiday. As we celebrate our freedoms here at Catholic Charities, we want to honor those who have served our country, including our clients, team members, board leaders, volunteers and donors. Because of your service and sacrifice, we are blessed with personal and national freedoms as Americans. This month, we salute you!

Sundt Foundation Brings Hope to Veterans

Sundt Construction has operated in Arizona since 1929 and its employees have a heart for the community, including Veterans. For the past several years, the Sundt Foundation has been a supporter of Catholic Charities’ MANA (Marines, Army, Navy, Air Force) House, our 76 bed shelter for Veterans experiencing homelessness. At Sundt, foundation funds are donated by employees and 100% matched by the company.

McArthur Smith, Sundt Foundation committee member, recently joined us at MANA House for a tour. While there, he presented Catholic Charities with a check for $10,000 to support the program. Thank you, McArthur and Sundt Foundation, for continuing to make a difference in the lives of our Veterans!

Counselors Provide Solace to
Children Visiting Incarcerated Parents

Counselors from Catholic Charities Counseling program rode alongside 70 children on their way to Perryville Prison for a pre-Mother’s Day visit. Volunteers from St. Patrick parish in Scottsdale organized the trip as part of the fourth annual “Get on the Bus AZ,” a program that ensures children have a chance to connect with their incarcerated parents. Mary Permoda, director of pastoral activities at St. Patrick and Catholic Charities Board Chair, led the efforts this year.

“During the bus ride, children tend to express an array of emotions, and it was the counselors’ job to support and validate them,” said Anna Smith, senior program manager at Catholic Charities. BHHS Legacy Foundation Tours MANA House

Last month we had the honor of hosting several members from the BHHS Legacy Foundation on a special tour of our MANA House. Pictured here are Paul Mulligan, Catholic Charities President & CEO; Shannon Clancy, St. Vincent de Paul CEO and Legacy Foundation Board Member; Kathleen Duffy Ybarra, Duffy Group CEO and Catholic Charities Campaign Co-Chair; Gerald Wissink, Legacy Foundation President & CEO; Danelle King, Catholic Charities MANA House Director; and Karen Bisko, Catholic Charities VP of Philanthropy.

“We greatly appreciate the partnership that the BHHS Legacy Foundation has helped us build together, and the incredible outcomes being achieved as a result of their philanthropic leadership,” said Paul Mulligan. A big thank you to Jerry Wissink and the entire BHHS Legacy Foundation Board for their continued support and generosity to Catholic Charities!

NSYP Helps Teens Decide if They’re “Ready or Not”

The Youth Group at Blessed Sacrament Church recently participated in the Baby Ready or Not program hosted by Catholic Charities' North Star Youth Partnership (NSYP). The program helps teens experience the reality of parenting at a young age. After two days with their baby simulators, this youth group proudly reported they were not ready for the responsibilities of parenthood.

Wells Fargo Volunteers Help Restore Dignity

The Wells Fargo Tech Community team packed over 200 tote bags of essential hygiene products at their corporate offices in Chandler for our MANA House, My Sisters' Place, and Pathways programs. The hygiene kits include items like shampoo, toothbrushes, deodorant and soap. The donations ensure that the basic hygiene needs of the men and women we serve are met, but more importantly, they help restore dignity and hope at a time when it’s needed most.

Special thanks to the Wells Fargo Tech Community volunteers, Courtney Villarreal and Roger Barrientos, for supporting Veterans and domestic violence survivors served by our programs!
