July 2022

Paul MulliganCelebrating Our New Bishop, New Board Officers and Our Freedom on July 4th!

Dear Friends,

“Fourth of July Greetings” and blessings to you! With a focus on freedom this month, we want to especially recognize our many team members, board leaders, volunteers, donors and clients who have served our country in the military! Thanks to their service and sacrifice, we are blessed with personal and national freedoms we are able to enjoy as Americans.

Recently, we also received a very big announcement from the Vatican! Pope Francis has appointed Auxiliary Bishop John P. Dolan of San Diego to be the next bishop of the Diocese of Phoenix. Bishop Dolan will replace Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted, who is retiring and has led the diocese since 2003. We are grateful for Bishop Olmsted’s service and look forward to welcoming Bishop Dolan to our community.

Finally, we also had several changes in our board officers. We want to thank our past board leaders for their outstanding support in 2021-2022: Tony Siebers, Mary Permoda, Mark Hiegel and the Hon. Chris Skelly. We are pleased to announce our new officers for the 2022-2023 year:

• Mary Permoda: Board Chair

• Mark Hiegel: Board Vice Chair

• Gretchen Caraway: Board Recruiting Director

• Hon. Chris Skelly: Board Governance Practices Director

Thank you from all of us. We offer our heartfelt gratitude for your investment in our mission. Whether homeless, hungry, scared, lost or preparing to start over, our team will be there, walking alongside our clients on a path to permanent solutions. We look forward to serving even more.

Creating a Healing Place for Veterans

The Sons of the American Revolution donated $6,054.16 to Catholic Charities MANA House to create a place of healing and reflection for our veterans. This patio garden will also be used by the veterans to meet family and friends in a quiet space. We are grateful for this thoughtful gift from the Sons of American Revolution and look forward to working together in the future.

Veteran Team Member Helps Others

Chuck brings compassion, kindness and a joyful spirit to those he meets at MANA (Marines, Army, Navy, Air Force) House’s Veterans Outreach Center. He credits his deep understanding of what others are going through to a period in his life many years ago when he was homeless himself.

Today, Chuck is focused on helping veterans experiencing homelessness transition into permanent housing by focusing on long-term solutions.
