Serve a Thon Helps Domestic Violence Shelter

Catholic Charities is fortunate to have many community partners. One of those partners, Hands on Greater Phoenix, brought a group of volunteers from Blue Cross Blue Shield to My Sisters' Place , Catholic Charities' domestic violence shelter, and put them to work!

Each year, Hands On Greater Phoenix has a large scale service day, a Serve A Thon. This year, Catholic Charities benefited greatly from this service day.

Blue Cross Blue Shield volunteers painted the entire back area at My Sisters' Place. This area houses up to eight families or 16 individuals who have experienced domestic violence. The volunteers did not hesitate to roll up their sleeves and get to work. Two of the people present, fearlessly took on the hardest task of all, painting the ceiling.

Hands on Greater Phoenix had volunteers build a desk ahead of time so that our Blue Cross Blue shield volunteers could sand it down and paint it. At the end of the day the desk looked amazing and their hard work was evident.  Our clients will now have a beautiful area to work, thanks to these volunteers!

Blue Cross made sure that our kiddos also had something special done for them that day. They painted four square and hop scotch lines in the back yard. Doing so, was a lot more time consuming than they had anticipated, especially in the Arizona heat, but they set out to accomplish the task and did not give up until it was finished.
