She wanted a better life for her child...
 |
There are so many opportunities, and thanks to Catholic Charities, I know there are many out there for us. |
Childhood should be a time of happiness, wonder, and security, but for Angela it wasn't. She had grown up unhappy in several group and foster homes, and at 15, wanted no more of it. She dropped out of school, ran away from a group home, and lived on the streets. At 16, she was pregnant.
That's when Angela sought help-she wanted a better life for her child. Despite her distrust of group homes, she agreed to give Casa Linda Lodge, Catholic Charities' group home for teenage mothers, a try.
"It didn't take long for me to realize that Casa Linda was very different," Angela said. "The staff members were extremely caring and supportive and helped me understand my responsibilities as a mother."
Angela, now 20 and married, is celebrating the birth of her second daughter. "My Casa Linda experience helped me prepare for the challenges of caring for my family," she said. "I want my daughters to see the world differently than I did. There are so many opportunities, and thanks to Catholic Charities, I know there are many out there for us."
