Catholic Charities Paths of HOPE program receives national recognition
Local Catholic Charities receives $25,000 for its outstanding work in reducing poverty and strengthening families and communities
PHOENIX (Aug. 16, 2011)—Catholic Charities Community Services received the 2011 Catholic Charities USA Family Strengthening Award for its outstanding work to reduce poverty and strengthen families and communities through its Paths of HOPE program.
Paths of HOPE helps vulnerable individuals and families to permanently improve their financial situations and achieve long-term prosperity through a continuum of services including financial education, self-development, skill building, planning and mentorship.
“By helping families build the skills and access the resources they need to be economically stable, Paths of HOPE helps them to build better lives and, as a result, strengthens the communities in which they live. We need more programs like Paths of HOPE to reach our goal to reduce poverty in America by 50 percent by 2020," said Jane Stenson, senior director of poverty reduction strategies for Catholic Charities USA.
The $25,000 award is made possible through the generous support of the Annie E. Casey Foundation and recognizes exceptional programs that take a holistic approach to providing services that improve a family’s overall financial situation, support healthy family relationships, and enhance the community where the families live.
“Paths of HOPE is made possible by our program staff and hundreds of volunteers who are dedicated to permanently improving lives by providing sustainable solutions. This award is a testament to their efforts and will allow us to help more vulnerable individuals and families,” said Bob Brown, president and CEO of Catholic Charities Community Services. "We are grateful to the Annie E. Casey Foundation and to Catholic Charities USA for their recognition and support.”
Catholic Charities Paths of HOPE classes and workshops are free and continuously forming in communities throughout Central and Northern Arizona. To find out more, visit www.catholiccharitiesaz.org/pathsofhope.
